Kids Photography App Snap! Means More Octopus
An octopus is eating my son’s head. Here’s what happened: My six-year-old son loves taking pictures with my phone, my webcam, or our old digital camera. Sometimes he mistakenly slips into video mode and I find videos of my son’s feet/legos/a patch of the floor, and my six-year-old breathing in the background. Other times he’s snapping away and I hear that clatter that every parent who owns mobile technology dreads: the dropping of the device.
But no matter, I am a supportive parent (who was smart enough to get an indestructible case) and I want my son to keep taking pictures. So I thought he’d enjoy some photo editing. I loaded up Snap!, a desktop app to snap and edit pictures using your computers webcam. This isn’t your typical photo editing app, however. My son can take some quick shots and then add stickers, speech bubbles or crazy filters to play with the images. Everything is really one-click simple. Even sharing on Facebook, but I haven’t let him do that yet.
His favorite Snap! sticker is an octopus, which he then manipulates to look like it’s eating his head, or his infant brother’s head. Or my head. Or that patch of floor. Or my wife’s feet. Basically, that octopus is very hungry and has made his way through our entire daily life so we haven’t let him share the photos outside of our household. I’m thinking about editing all of those octopus photos and adding a whole separate family album just for octopus shots. And maybe a possible Christmas card…
If you have budding photographers in the house, give Snap! a try. If you’re already using Snap! send me a link to some of your creations.
