Dusting off and Firing Up the Mental Cogs with Education Apps

Posted on by Carl H.

Hi! I’m Carl, the newest intern at the Intel AppUp® center. I help people get excited about the awesome apps we have. Being an intern at Intel means a tremendous learning curve and feeling like I’m going back to school. I’m trying to learn about the free apps people should download and which paid apps are the most useful. All this mixed with plenty of company stats and terminology has forced me to dust off the mental cogs and get them running again.

That’s why my favorite apps are the ones that make you think.  I have two little ones who are headed to pre-K this fall, so my wife and I call our house the “Education Preparation Station.”

Since it’s a perpetual struggle to get kids to pay attention long enough to learn letters and numbers, we turned to some really cool education apps that are available at AppUp.com.  When I get home from work the kids gather around my computer and we practice letters with the Caillou Alphabet app, or the Caillou Counting app. PBS Kids even made an app for the Super Why set.

Then when we are all done, we find a fun game app that uses our cognitive skills, like Cogs GO, or Family Feud, if my wife wants to join us.  That’s the summer of learning! I’ll check back in on Fridays and let you know how it’s going.
