The Wasted Land is a superbly balanced game!
If there’s any justice in the world, Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land will be the start of a SRPG franchise that will rival Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics as a popular, commercially successful name. It oozes style, is amongst the best looking app games out there, and features a nuanced combat system that remains compelling through the entire game.
Worthy of the Cthulhu Name
Worth the money, buy now thanks me later. This is a great balance of the new and the old. Turn based, sanity shattering tactics with and oh so creepy world war 1 feel. Love Lovecraft? Love tactical games? If either answer yes i can recommend the game.
Game seems fine,it just has horrendous user interface
It is controlled by a mouse, supports single button, responds to the clicks and long-clicks only (wtf is long-click,you may wonder);ignoring the keyboard entirely(ESC?Never heard of it).
Nothing happens when you move or point a mouse-no popup info,no map moving (map movement is especially painful as it's done by tiny little careful drags of the map - do something less gentle and entire map scrolls away, leaving you staring on the black screen).
Game is not covering the whole screen, when running
App will not run
Tech support couldn't get it working either. Error message says AppUp is corrupted or old. It's not, I've reinstalled. Other AppUp apps work fine.
Hadn't tried the iPad version. Once figuring its a click and hold to take an action against an enemy, the game is pretty simple to manage. Not far in but game is really enjoyable, getting more fun with each level
User interface is poor
Have to agree with a previous reviewer, the user interface is poor for PC. No keyboard shortcuts, click and hold is very annoying and not very intuitive. It's a shame as I have been waiting to play this game and I love the idea of a turn based tactical rpg set in the Cthulhu mythos.
Minor defects spoiling potential
Overall an enjoyable and engaging game, let down by bad UI and bugs.
"AppUp corrupted": I had this first time, I had to install the Adobe Air thingy and worked fine after.
Annoyng UI. Too many times you will select-click an enemy rather than target, sell/buy stuff you didn't want to, etc. Perhaps if Intel AppUp could do some conversion of "Long-Click" to Right Mouse Button etc would be far avoid these really annoying issues.
Noticed a couple of bugs in the Quartermasters - equipment will disapp
My favorite Cthulhu Mythos game since...
The last one, which was too many Eons ago.
The controls can be a bit tricky and seem over sensitive at fist but after a bit of practice, you get used to them.
The game itself is full of the spirit of the Mythos and I whole heartedly recommend it to any fan. At the price of a cup of coffee, it has a better flavour and will definitely linger longer in the memory.
When I reported an issue with the game, Tomas was right on the case. This is something that deserves praise itself, as it was also the
10 Hours of Fun for 5 Dollars
I'll admit I've been on a Cthulhu binge lately, but regardless, The Wasted Land is stupid fun. Don't take it too seriously, as any medium where the entities of the mythos can be so handily defeated isn't proper horror. What it is is silly, self aware entertainment, decenly balanced and at a very good value.
Any game that can be ended with an insane solider bludgeoning a demon to death with his shovel is gold, in my book.
Pros: Awesome use of Cthulhu Mythos -- please make more like this!
Cons: (minor) interface is awkward due to being ported from a touch-screen app...but well worth the minor annoyance.
Definitely could be a great franchise. more depth, more choices, more graphics. Already well worth the price...but would easily pay 10X that amount for a more fleshed out game
App will not run
Every time i click on the launch button within my program it states the error report
"Licence has expired"
I am a huge fan of Call of Cthulhu & a Mythos author. I wanted this game to be great. Alas, the controls are so poor as to make it unplayable. The interface, control options and implimentation need a serious upgrade for the PC version to recommendable.
Program does not work properly on PCs: It stops reacting to any mouse clicks a few seconds into the game.
Since the company who sells this game is well aware of the problem (see other reviews), but not willing to do anything about it, I strongly suggest not supporting them.
